On the night of May 3, a storm with hail swept across several central provinces, causing heavy damage to agricultural production. Hà Tĩnh and Nghệ An recorded nearly 9,000 hectares of spring rice knocked down, prompting local authorities, law enforcement, and community organizations to mobilize quickly to harvest lodged rice and minimize losses.
In Hà Tĩnh, the Subdepartment of Cultivation and Livestock reported that the May 3 storm knocked over almost 5,900 hectares of spring rice that were in the harvest stage. By the morning of May 5, localities had mobilized maximum manpower and equipment to assist farmers in harvesting lodged rice to protect both yield and quality. Police, militia, and various mass organizations also joined efforts to mitigate the disaster’s impact.
In Nghệ An, more than 3,000 hectares of spring rice were affected after heavy rains and hail. In many localities, including Đức Châu, rice was knocked down, causing distress among residents. Local authorities and the military deployed to the fields to support farmers in harvesting lodged rice.
This morning, the blue uniforms of the Đức Châu Commune’s Security Forces joined farmers to harvest lodged rice. In Hung Châu Commune, the Farmers’ Association organized support for members in particularly difficult circumstances to harvest spring rice. Harvesting machines were prioritized to assist affected farmers, and mutual aid and solidarity spread across the fields.
