gold prices eased this morning in line with global gold prices, with SJC gold bars and jewelry trading at around 162 million dong per tael for buys and 165 million dong per tael for sells. As of 9:10 a.m., SJC bullion prices at Saigon Jewelry Co., Phu Quy, and Doji were listed at 162 million dong per tael for buying and 165 million dong per tael for selling, down 500,000 dong per tael from yesterday’s close. In the jewelry segment, Bao Tin Minh Chau and Phu Quy traded around 162-165 million dong per tael, also down 500,000 dong per tael from the close on May 12. During the morning, the buy-sell margin remained at 3 million dong per tael. On the international market, the precious metal hovered around 4,701 USD/ounce, down about 30 USD/ounce from the same time yesterday. Converted at Vietcombank’s USD/VND rate, this price equates to about 149.4 million dong per tael. Thus, the domestic SJC price is still about 15.6 million dong per tael above the world price. For the foreign exchange market, the State Bank of Vietnam’s central rate was 25,123 dong/USD, unchanged from the close on May 12. Rates at commercial banks were also steady: Vietcombank 26,099-26,379 dong/USD (buy-sell); VietinBank 26,142-26,379; BIDV 26,129-26,379; Eximbank 26,110-26,379 (buy-sell).
