Domestic gold prices fell sharply, trading around 172.5 million dong per tael. Global gold prices rose by $13 per ounce, but domestic prices eased by 1–1.2 million dong per tael, reflecting a weaker translation into local terms.
At 9:10 am, global gold prices hovered around $4,823/oz, up $13/oz over the last 24 hours. Using Vietcombank’s USD exchange rate, the global price translated to about 153.2 million dong per tael.
As a result, domestic prices opened lower. Saigon Jewelry Co. (SJC), Phú Quý, and Doji quoted SJC bullion at 168.5 million dong per tael for the buy side and 172.5 million dong per tael for the sell side, down 1 million dong per tael from the prior close.
Gold jewelry prices also declined. Phú Quý quoted jewelry trading between 168.5 million and 172 million dong per tael (buy/sell), down 1 million dong per tael from April 15. Bao Tin Minh Chau quoted jewelry at 168.5–171.8 million dong per tael (buy/sell), down 1.2 million dong per tael from the previous close.
During the morning session, the bid-ask spread was maintained at about 3–3.5 million dong per tael.
Currently, SJC domestic gold remains about 19.3 million dong per tael above the world price.
In the foreign exchange market, the State Bank of Vietnam set the central rate at 25,102 dong per USD, down 1 dong from April 15. Bank rates moved similarly: Vietcombank at 26,097–26,357 dong/USD (buy/sell); VietinBank at 26,125–26,357; BIDV at 26,127–26,357; and Eximbank at 26,120–26,357, each down 1 dong from the previous close.
