The Ministry of Construction has approved adjustments to the national airport system planning for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050. Under the revised plan, Thổ Chu Airport will be added to the network, with an estimated total investment of about VND 28,800 billion.
The airport is expected to be located in An Giang Province and designed to achieve ICAO airport category 4C. In the 2021–2030 period, the airport is planned to handle around 20,000 passengers per year, while the 2050 vision targets approximately 1 million passengers per year.
Land requirements are estimated at over 234 hectares. Total investment costs for the planning period and horizon are estimated at 28,800 billion VND.
The decision also adjusts the anticipated land area for the overall airport system planning through 2030 to about 26,025 hectares. The total investment demand to develop the airport system through 2030 is estimated at about 514,000 billion VND, to be mobilized from the state budget, off-budget sources, and other lawful funding channels.
Other contents remain consistent with Decision 648 dated June 7, 2023 by the Prime Minister and related adjustments by the Minister of Construction.
After adding Thổ Chu Airport, the national airport system planning for 2021–2030 identifies 32 airports nationwide, including 15 international and 17 domestic airports. By 2050, the network is projected to expand to 35 airports, comprising 15 international and 20 domestic airports.

The stated objective is to gradually develop Thổ Châu into a strategic support base for defense in the Southwest region.
