EVNGENCO2 is working to complete the Huong Phung 1 wind power project on the western slopes of Vietnam’s Truong Son range. The project has faced significant site-clearance challenges due to difficult terrain and fragmented farming plots.
Located in Quang Tri province, Huong Phung 1 is part of the VIII Power Plan. The project is designed to add clean electricity to the national grid, strengthen energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and support socio-economic development in the region.
According to the report, site clearance has been the main obstacle, driven by the area’s difficult terrain and the presence of fragmented farming plots. These factors have contributed to delays and complexity in project implementation.
Beyond energy and environmental benefits, the project is expected to create local jobs during both construction and operation. It is also intended to contribute stable revenue to Quang Tri’s budget.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, the Vice-Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Le Van Bao, highlighted Quang Tri’s favorable natural conditions and strong wind potential. He said the province’s advantages support clean energy development, contribute to national energy security, and help fulfill greenhouse gas reduction commitments.
The launch reflects Quang Tri’s commitment to a renewable energy transition and aims to position the province as a regional and nationwide energy hub.
