A joint venture between Becamex Group and Truong Hai Group (Thaco) is proposing to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to study investment in Metro Line 1, specifically the segment from Bình Dương New City to Suối Tiên, including a plan to connect directly to the project’s central station A1.
At a press conference on the afternoon of 09/04, Mr. Do Diep Gia Hop, Deputy Head of the Traffic Maintenance and Exploitation Department under the Department of Construction, provided details regarding the Cultural–W Economic–Commercial–Services Center area (WTC Bình Dương New City) project, developed by Becamex.
Mr. Do Diep Gia Hop said the project was appraised by the Construction Operations Management Department (Ministry of Construction) in the feasibility study report in Document No. 52/HĐXD-QLTK dated 04/03/2022. Based on this appraisal, the Board of Directors of the Industrial Development and Investment Corporation – J.S.C. (now Becamex Group) approved the investment in late March 2022.
For subsequent steps, the construction design dossier after the basic design was approved by the investor under Decision No. 392/2023/QĐ-IDC dated 02/08/2023. Later, the Bình Dương Province Construction Department (old) issued Building Permit No. 4264/GPXD on 29/11/2023.
According to the permit, the project must begin within 12 months from the date of issuance; otherwise, extension procedures are required. In practice, the developer began site construction on 17/07/2024, meeting the timeline requirement.
A representative of the Department of Construction noted that, to date, there has been no modification to the approved plan. The remaining works are being carried out by Becamex Group in accordance with the Building Permit.
Separately, the Becamex consortium with Truong Hai (Thaco) is proposing to Ho Chi Minh City to study investment in Metro Line 1 from Bình Dương New City to Suối Tiên, including a direct connection to central station A1.
The Department of Construction stated that after the competent authority approves the investment policy for the metro line, Becamex will proceed with the next steps under current regulations.
Mr. Pham Tuan Anh, Becamex’s Director of Technology Development, said the A1 intersection is the central station of the Suối Tiên – Bình Dương New City line. He added that the station cannot be built before the project has an investor.
He also noted that Ho Chi Minh City is developing under the TOD model, aiming for public transport, and that TOD integration would help mobilize resources efficiently. He said that depending on the legal progress, Becamex will register groundbreaking and commence specific works, and add other projects as part of this event.
