Google is introducing a feature called Personal Intelligence that connects information securely from apps such as Gmail and Google Photos, enabling Gemini to act as a more capable assistant for users. If enabled, users can control which apps are connected, and each connected app is used to help optimize the experience.
Google says Personal Intelligence is designed to be simple and secure. With a single tap, users can connect services including Gmail, Photos, YouTube, and Search. Gemini’s core capabilities in this setup include reasoning across complex data sources and retrieving detailed, specific information—such as from an email or screenshot—to answer user questions.
Google also states that Gemini can process text, images, and videos to provide tailored responses for each user.
Google says Personal Intelligence is built with privacy at its core. App connections are off by default. Users can choose whether to enable the feature, decide exactly which apps connect, and turn it off at any time.
When activated, Gemini will access user data to answer specific requests and perform tasks. Google states this data is securely stored at Google, and users do not need to send sensitive data elsewhere to personalize the experience.
Google says users will not have to guess where answers come from. Gemini will try to cite or explain information it used from connected sources to verify. If that does not occur, users can request more information. If an answer appears incorrect, users can edit it directly.
Users can also request an answer without personalization for a given conversation, or use a temporary chat option to keep the dialogue separate from personal data.
Google states it applies safeguards for sensitive topics. Gemini will not provide unprompted judgments on sensitive information such as health status unless the user directly asks to discuss this. Google also says Gemini will not directly use data from a user’s Gmail or Google Photos library to train the model.
Google is rolling out Personal Intelligence to personal accounts on Google for users registered for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra eligible services. The company’s stated goal is to bring the feature to free users in the coming weeks.
Google says the feature works across Web, Android, and iOS, and with all models in Gemini’s model picker.
If users do not see a trial invitation on Gemini’s home screen, Google says they can enable Personal Intelligence in Settings:
