An overpass at Km46 on the Biên Hòa – Vũng Tàu Expressway has become a bottleneck, delaying the project’s opening. A report by PV Báo Điện tử VTC News in early April said the expressway route from the T2 interchange (connecting the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thành – Dầu Giây expressway) to the National Highway 56 interchange has largely completed its main components.
Under the initial plan, the road was expected to open temporarily by late March. However, due to unresolved infrastructure issues at several locations, the temporary opening has been pushed to April 2026.
In the section from Hội Bài – Châu Pha to Ba Rịa (the end of the line), the cross-over at Km46 covers about 10 km. While the main line in this area has been completed for some time, the overpass’s incompletion has disrupted local access.
During earlier construction at this site, some households objected to road closures that affected daily life. The contractor was unable to fence the entire section and had to allow one-way traffic. When preparations began for a temporary opening around the Lunar New Year period, closing the expressway left residents of Tân Trung and Tân Lễ B hamlets in Châu Pha facing travel difficulties.
After relevant parties held a meeting, they agreed to speed up progress, prioritizing completion of the Km46 overpass to ensure connectivity for local residents.
Current observations indicate the Km46 overpass is being urgently constructed. The work involves about 10 workers on site and up to 30 workers per day across two shifts, supported by equipment intended to accelerate progress. To facilitate construction, the expressway segment from the Hội Bài – Châu Pha interchange has been fenced to restrict entry by residents and vehicles, aiming to avoid delays to the project.
The Biên Hòa – Vũng Tàu Expressway has a total length of 43.7 km and runs through Đồng Nai and Ba Rịa – Vũng Tàu (formerly). The project is divided into three component projects:
Despite overall positive progress, completing remaining items—especially the Km46 overpass—is seen as a key factor for the expressway to enter service soon and meet connectivity needs for the Southeast Region.
