On April 11, Lang Son Provincial Police issued a warning about the risk of information-security breaches when using applications that provide free WiFi. Authorities said that as demand for internet access grows, many people install free WiFi search or sharing apps.
Police said these apps are often used to connect to public networks in places such as cafes, restaurants, hotels, and shopping centers. Many operate on a “community sharing” model. When installed, the app requests access to the device’s network connectivity.

Police noted that WiFi networks residents have connected to—at home, in offices, at familiar shops, or in private locations—can be uploaded into the system and become public WiFi.
Lang Son Police emphasized that using these apps carries significant information-security risks. They warned that malicious actors could collect personal data, steal accounts, or install malware on user devices.
Police said that when WiFi passwords are widely shared, bad actors may gain unauthorized access to internal networks of homes or organizations. They could then intrude, probe devices within the same network, or exploit security vulnerabilities to steal data.
To reduce the risk, the Lang Son Police Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department advised the public to:
