All toll data from toll stations on the North–South Expressway’s eastern corridor will be transmitted to a central center for processing, storage, and centralized data governance. After more than two months of operation on five state-invested expressways, the electronic toll collection (ETC) system has demonstrated the ability to handle large data volumes while maintaining stable revenue.
During the two-month period from 2/3 to 30/4/2026, the system recorded nearly 6 million transactions, with total revenue of around 580 billion VND.
After two months, the ETC toll system has been reported as operating stably at all toll plazas. At traffic hotspots, vehicle flow through the toll stations has remained steady. The barrier-free toll collection system is an advanced technology solution first implemented in Vietnam. While rigorous testing was conducted, real-world operation can introduce additional variables beyond modeled scenarios, making some abnormal situations in the early phase unavoidable for large-scale technology systems.
However, the issues have been described as largely localized and small-scale, and are detected and resolved promptly by the monitoring system.
The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam, project management boards, and contractor units are coordinating to continue refining the system through a campaign to eliminate ITS errors on the five expressways in May 2026. Contractors have assigned dedicated personnel to be stationed at the Toll Operations Center to work directly on optimizing operating procedures.
The stated goal is to resolve all technical issues, with particular focus on inter-expressway ETC systems, in May 2026.
