The Project Management Board 2 under the Ministry of Construction has announced that the main expressway segment of the Quảng Ngãi–Hoài Nhơn project component will open to traffic from 11:30 a.m. on 29 April.
The Quảng Ngãi–Hoài Nhơn expressway is about 88 km long, starting at Km1050+00 in Nghĩa Giang commune, Quảng Ngãi, connecting to the Đà Nẵng–Quảng Ngãi expressway, and ending at Km1138+00 where it connects to the Hoài Nhơn–Quy Nhơn segment.
The project began in January 2023 with total investment of over 21,110 billion VND, funded from the state budget. To date, the main route has completed major components, including three mountain tunnels: Tunnel 1 (Đức Phổ), Tunnel 2 (Huân Phong) and Tunnel 3 (Bình Đê).
Under the phased traffic plan, the expressway will operate with four lanes and a roadbed width of 17 m. Design speeds are set at a maximum of 90 km/h and a minimum of 60 km/h. At interchanges, the maximum speed is 50 km/h or as signposted on site.
In this phase, five interchanges are already in operation: Nghĩa Giang, Tỉnh lộ 624B, Quốc lộ 24, Sa Huỳnh and Hoài Nhơn. The Đức Phổ interchange will be completed and opened later.
The current section has not yet collected tolls. However, a temporary toll plaza at Km1050+600 remains in operation to support toll collection for the connected Đà Nẵng–Quảng Ngãi expressway in the future.
Two rest stops at Km1065+620 and Km1127 are under construction. Drivers are advised to check fuel levels. After opening, work will continue to complete remaining items, including eastern tunnel drainage, the intelligent transport system (ITS) and rural service roads, to bring the project into full operation at the designed speed of 120 km/h.
According to official dispatch 1516/BQLDA85-ĐHDA2, on 29 April the Hoài Nhơn–Cu Mong tunnel section will also be opened for traffic, alongside the Quảng Ngãi–Hoài Nhơn expressway and package 11-XL from Km0+200 to Km19+800 of the Quy Nhơn–Chi Thạnh component.
The 85 Project Management Board requested Gia Lai province to coordinate with local authorities, media offices and residents to facilitate smooth and safe travel.
At present, main route sections and interchanges of the Hoài Nhơn–Quy Nhơn component from Km0+000 to Km70+091, and part of the Quy Nhơn–Chi Thạnh component from Km0+000 to Km19+800 in Gia Lai province, have been accepted by the State Council for Construction Acceptance, and asset handover to management authorities has been completed. As a result, during the 30 April holiday, the Quảng Ngãi–Hoài Nhơn–Cu Mong section will officially operate, helping improve traffic flow on the north–south expressway corridor.
The projects are managed by various project management units under the Ministry of Construction and commenced on 1 January 2023.
