Police in Hung Yen Province has issued an important notice. A new fraud tactic has emerged in which criminals exploit viewers who leave phone numbers in the comments during livestream sales to commit asset theft. Method: While watching a livestream selling session, customers leave their phone numbers in the comments to be advised, to confirm orders, or to receive promotions. The perpetrators monitor the livestream, collect the phone numbers left in the comments, and proactively call, impersonating the seller or the shipping company. The caller informs the buyer that they have won the promotion, that shipping is free, and requests confirmation of the order. They then guide and push the victim to act hastily, requiring the customer to: transfer a deposit, pay a holding fee, pay shipping, or provide OTP codes, bank account details, or click a suspicious link to 'confirm the order' in order to commit asset theft. Signs to watch for: Calls urging prompt order confirmation. Requests to transfer money outside the official sales system. Promises of free shipping, unusual gifts, or promotions that do not match the livestream. No confirmation via messages or official platforms. Hung Yen Police advise residents: - Do not provide publicly visible phone numbers in livestream comments. - Only message directly via the official fan page or store page. - Do not transfer money, do not provide OTP codes via phone. - If in doubt, verify directly with the seller via official shopping channels. Be a smart consumer, shop safely! If you detect suspicious signs, promptly report to the police so that measures can be taken to prevent and promptly address the situation. Read more"
