Prime Minister Le Minh Hung holds telephone talks with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong

On the morning of April 16, at the Government Office, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung spoke by telephone with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong congratulated Prime Minister Le Minh Hung on being entrusted with the role of Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term, and expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung to develop Vietnam – Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership relations robustly, substantively, and effectively. Thanking Prime Minister Lawrence Wong for the congratulatory letter and phone call, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said that Vietnam will soon issue new policies to attract more foreign investment into Vietnam, including from Singapore; he proposed Singapore support Vietnam in building international financial centers; to expand and upgrade the Vietnam – Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network to a next-generation model tied to high-tech transfer. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong expressed strong agreement with the assessments and proposals of Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, affirming Singapore’s high regard for the Vietnam relationship and readiness to implement the agreed cooperation contents; he emphasized a desire to boost high-level exchanges, economic cooperation, defense-security and other fields, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region. The two Prime Ministers agreed to continue to strengthen political trust, intensify visits and high-level and other-level exchanges; maintain the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms, including the annual exchanges between the two Prime Ministers; to soon implement the Strategic Dialogue mechanism between the two ruling parties in 2026; cooperate to ensure energy security. Both sides also affirmed prioritizing resources for implementing the Action Program on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2025-2030 period. The two sides also agreed on the possible signing of an intergovernmental agreement on cross-border low-emission electricity purchase and sale, creating a legal framework to ensure the successful implementation of a wind power export project from Vietnam to Singapore. In the context of a complex international environment, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung proposed that the two countries strengthen cooperation within ASEAN, coordinate closely in 2027 when Singapore chairs ASEAN, Vietnam hosts APEC; intensify defense-security cooperation, combat transnational crime, support building and operation of the National Data Center, the High-Performance Computing Center, and Artificial Intelligence, and push for substantive COC negotiations. On this occasion, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong graciously invited Prime Minister Le Minh Hung to pay an official visit to Singapore.
