The People’s Committee of Quang Ngai Province has issued Decision No. 252/QD-UBND, formally approving the investment policy for the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 24, a key transport corridor linking the province’s mountainous areas with economic centers in Quang Ngai and surrounding regions.
Under the approved plan, the project covers approximately 48.4 km of roadway and is designed to meet Class III and IV mountainous road standards, tailored to local terrain.
The roadbed will be 9 m wide. The paved surface and reinforced shoulders total 8 m, with an additional 1 m earthen shoulder.
The road surface will use asphalt concrete (A1) combined with cement concrete on a crushed-stone base, aimed at improving durability, load-bearing capacity, and long-term adaptability.
For the bridge system along the route, the design adopts HL93 design loads, with an overall width of 9 m. The upper structures include I-beams, T-beams, and slab girders, while piers and columns are reinforced concrete. Foundations will be shallow foundations, driven piles, or bored piles depending on geological conditions, to ensure safety and stability in mountainous terrain.
Intersections along the corridor will be arranged as at-grade and equipped with a full set of traffic safety features, including traffic signs, road markings, reflective studs, and soft guardrails. The measures are intended to improve visibility and navigation for road users and support smoother, safer, and more continuous traffic flow to meet rising transport demand.
The project’s estimated total investment is about VND 2,350 billion. Of this, approximately VND 2,000 billion will come from the central government, and around VND 350 billion from local authorities.
Implementation is planned for 2026–2028.
Upgrading National Highway 24 is expected to serve as a breakthrough in transport infrastructure for Quang Ngai’s mountainous area. The project is expected to shorten travel times, reduce logistics costs, and expand the economic and social development space for the region. It will also strengthen connectivity across the region, support investment attraction and tourism development, and help raise living standards for local residents.
