The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued a warning that hackers are exploiting vulnerabilities targeting Apple's endpoint devices to launch cyberattacks, steal data, and fully take control of the devices. Based on the National Vulnerability Database, a platform operated by the ministry, experts say the ongoing cyberattacks affect Apple devices running iOS versions 13.0 to 17.2.1, including iPhone and iPad. Hackers typically lure victims via text messages, emails, or compromised websites that lead to malicious sites. There, by chaining existing security vulnerabilities on the device, hackers install Trojan malware on target devices, steal users' sensitive information, gain highest-level access (administrative rights), and ultimately take full control of the devices. The Ministry recommends that users of affected Apple products update their operating system to the latest version as soon as possible and avoid clicking links or attachments with suspicious signs, and remain vigilant against messages or websites of unclear origin.
