Less than a week after the kickoff of Vietnam’s Liên Chiểu port project, a U.S. delegation expressed interest in the initiative, which is designed as a modern container hub with total investment of over $2 billion and a footprint of about 173 hectares.
According to Da Nang City’s Information Portal, on the morning of April 3, Ho Kỳ Minh, Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Da Nang, received and hosted the Oregon state delegation from the United States. At the meeting, Da Nang’s leaders said they want to deepen and broaden cooperation with Oregon as the locality accelerates modernization and integration.
Ho Kỳ Minh highlighted human resource development as a promising area of cooperation with Oregon. He noted that Da Nang University of Economics and Duy Tân University are currently offering programs in semiconductor technology and logistics services, and the city expects expanded cooperation in semiconductors as well as stronger links among training institutions.
The Oregon delegation said it has a long-standing cooperative relationship with Da Nang, citing multiple exchange activities and mutual visits. The delegation expressed interest in the Liên Chiểu Port project and asked to learn more about potential collaboration opportunities in logistics and goods transport, while Oregon companies seek information to assess possible cooperation.
The Liên Chiểu port investment project was kicked off on March 28 in Da Nang. The port covers 172.6 hectares and has total investment of over $2 billion. The project aims to develop into a modern container port and an international intermodal hub for Vietnam’s Central region.
Geographically, the Liên Chiểu port area is located in central Vietnam on the international shipping corridor, supporting trade connections regionally and globally. The port is also described as marking the end of the East-West Economic Corridor, which runs through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
Planned infrastructure includes eight container berths with a total quay length of about 2,750 meters. The port is designed to accommodate container ships up to 18,000 TEUs. The project is planned in three phases from 2026 to 2036, with a 50-year operation term.
Da Nang People’s Committee approved the Hateco-APMT consortium as the project investor, stating that it met the required criteria for capability, experience and the implementation plan.
