This is a field with great potential that Vietnam is paying close attention to. The field is artificial intelligence (AI). On the afternoon of May 22, at the Headquarters of the Communist Party of Vietnam, General Secretary and President To Lam met David Zapolsky, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Global Affairs of Amazon. At the meeting, the General Secretary and President congratulated Amazon on its recent successes in investment and
business in Vietnam over the past years, and appreciated its positive contributions to Vietnam's development as well as the Vietnam–US relationship. The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam regards the United States as a key partner, and hopes that cooperation between the two countries will continue to develop in line with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In this regard, economic, trade and investment cooperation will continue to be the primary driver, while science and technology cooperation will be a new breakthrough in the relationship. The General Secretary asked Amazon to further leverage its potential and positive results in investment and business in Vietnam, and to continue being an important partner in implementing Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, contributing practically in areas such as data infrastructure, AI and training of high-quality human resources in Vietnam. In particular, the General Secretary emphasized that Vietnam is accelerating the improvement of a transparent legal environment, underscoring the importance of protecting intellectual property rights, and facilitating investment and business for high-tech enterprises, in the spirit of constructive development, tied to a growth model based on science and technology. The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam values and is ready to create favorable conditions for U.S. high-tech corporations to invest and do business in Vietnam, based on mutual benefits and contributions to the development of bilateral relations, bringing tangible benefits to people and enterprises in both countries. Amazon commits to long-term investment in Vietnam. By the end of 2025, Amazon had revenues of $717 billion, surpassing Walmart to become the world's largest revenue-generating company. This milestone is seen as historic for the e-commerce and cloud computing giant since its founding in 1994 from a bookseller in Seattle. — Minh Hang
