On May 11, 2026, Vingroup broke ground on the Khu đô thị mới, du lịch nghỉ dưỡng và dịch vụ thể thao phía Tây Bắc (new urban, resort tourism and sports services area in the northwest) in Điện Biên Phủ ward. The 228-hectare development is the largest project of its kind in the province.
The project is situated at the intersection of Điện Biên Phủ ward and Thanh Nưa commune. It is positioned to provide quick access to Điện Biên Phủ Airport and to serve as a gateway to the future Mộc Châu – Sơn La – Điện Biên expressway.
Once completed, the development is expected to form a cross-regional trade and tourism corridor across the Northwest, supporting Điện Biên’s positioning as a strategic destination on the national development map.
The centerpiece is a large sports complex that includes an 18-hole golf course covering nearly 87 hectares, designed to integrate with the natural terrain to create a distinctive experience in the Northwest.
Beyond the sports complex, the project will include commercial and service facilities, a luxury hotel, an inter-level education system, a medical center, public spaces, parks, and water bodies.
At the Điện Biên Province Investment Promotion Conference 2026, VinEnergo—part of Vingroup’s green ecosystem—together with the provincial People’s Committee signed a memorandum of understanding on renewable energy.
Under the memorandum, VinEnergo will implement the Điện Biên 1 solar power plant that has been approved for investment. The parties will also study and propose around 10 GW of solar projects with an estimated total investment of 157.95 trillion VND.
In addition, the memorandum includes studying and proposing energy storage systems (BESS) with about 8,000 MWh to support grid operations and renewable energy development, with an estimated investment of 28.431 trillion VND.
The two sides will also study and propose synchronous electricity transmission infrastructure consistent with the province’s renewable energy development plan for 2021–2030, with an outlook to 2050, in line with current regulations.
The project’s urban development and green energy components are expected to create a new growth driver by increasing high-tech content, generating jobs, strengthening infrastructure, and contributing to higher provincial budget revenue. The overall initiative is intended to support Tây Bắc in becoming a dynamic, sustainable growth center in the future.
