Consensys and Ethereum ecosystem stewards led by Joe Lubin have committed up to 30,000 ETH to DeFi United’s rsETH recovery effort, announced on Monday and disclosed to Bitcoin.com News on April 27, 2026. The contribution is intended to help restore rsETH backing and support users affected by an April 18 bridge incident.
Consensys, the company behind MetaMask, is contributing alongside a broader set of ecosystem participants. The disclosed list includes Aave DAO, Lido, Etherfi, Ethena, Mantle, Ink Foundation, Tydro, Golem Foundation, Golem Project, and Frax.
Sharplink, the Nasdaq-listed company trading under the ticker SBET, has joined in an advisory capacity to help develop and structure the recovery plan. DeFi United was announced on April 23.
The up to 30,000 ETH contribution from Consensys and Lubin is described as making funds available without waiting for governance timelines. Governance approval processes across affected protocols are reported to be advancing in parallel, enabling the recovery to proceed on multiple fronts at once, with further funding updates expected at defiunited.world.
Aave Labs founder Stani Kulechov acknowledged the contribution directly, saying: “Financial support from these leading ecosystem participants makes funds available to the recovery effort without delay; the recovery would not be progressing as it is without them.” He added that the group is “grateful for this meaningful contribution towards the goal of making rsETH holders whole and normalizing market conditions.”
Joe Lubin characterized the effort as a demonstration of Ethereum’s resilience, stating: “The Ethereum technology and ecosystem is antifragile.” He added that Ethereum “will continue to adapt and evolve to scale and broaden its scope, while continuing to harden the foundations.”
Lubin also said: “The Ethereum ecosystem has always been at its best when it moves together. DeFi United is exactly that — a broad, coordinated response to protect users and strengthen the infrastructure we’ve all helped build. Consensys is proud to contribute alongside other stewards in the ecosystem.”
The April 18 incident created a gap in rsETH backing that required a coordinated response across DeFi. DeFi United is described as pulling together capital and expertise from across the Ethereum ecosystem rather than relying on a single protocol or governance body.
In addition to Consensys and Lubin, individual participants are listed as joining the effort, including Stani Kulechov and Emilio Frangella. BGD Labs and thousands of DeFi community members are also reported to have committed.
Governance processes at affected protocols and networks continue to move forward. The 30,000 ETH commitment is positioned as accelerating recovery by providing capital immediately, giving governance processes room to operate without holding up progress.
