At around 5:30 PM on May 5, about a day after facing significant criticism over its recruitment campaign, Oatside Vietnam issued an official reply on its Facebook page, which has about 14K followers.
The company said it acknowledged discussions surrounding the recent CMO recruitment and admitted that the campaign deployment on LinkedIn was not appropriate, leading to misunderstanding and disappointment among some users, particularly given the sensitivity of the job market.
Oatside Vietnam apologized for the incident and said it would ensure data privacy. It also stated it had contacted applicants to confirm that all submitted data has been, is, and will continue to be handled securely, with permanent deletion as promised. The brand added that it would review how such campaigns are executed in the future to be clearer and more cautious.
On April 4, the Oatside Vietnam fanpage announced the recruitment result for the CMO position in Vietnam, listing Pamela Hải Đường as the chosen candidate—4 years old.
Earlier, on March 30, the brand posted a LinkedIn job advertisement with full job descriptions and requirements, inviting applications as a genuine career opportunity and attracting more than 100 applicants.
After the backlash, Oatside Vietnam explained that the “CMO” in the campaign did not refer to the traditional Chief Marketing Officer, but to Chief Milk Officer—a humorous designation intended to emphasize that children are the best at tasting milk.
The post drew many comments from netizens. Over the last 24 hours, the recruitment story became a topic of debate across several social platforms. Many commenters said the execution was inconsistent and showed disrespect to serious applicants, raising questions about what will happen to the CVs from around 100 applicants and how they will be used. Some users also called for boycotts of the brand’s products.
The matter continues to attract public attention.
