A woman in Hanoi has lost nearly 1 billion dong after being scammed through an online-task scheme run via a Facebook group impersonating a children’s products company, according to a report received by the Hanoi Police Department for Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention.
The victim, Ms N, said she wanted to buy a baby stroller online. A Facebook account then contacted her, posing as customer service, and invited her to join the Facebook group “Dong hanh cung Con Cung.”
Police said the group was fake and impersonated Con Cung Joint Stock Company, which sells products for children.
After joining, Ms N was asked to deposit money to perform tasks intended to “boost sales” within the Con Cung system. The scheme promised profits of 30% to 50% on the invested amount.
Ms N deposited nearly 1 billion dong into the system. When she attempted to withdraw the funds, she was told she had to deposit additional money to receive the money she had already put in.
After realizing she had been scammed, Ms N filed a report with the police.
