A woman in Hanoi has lost nearly 1 billion VND after performing online tasks in a group impersonating a children’s retail brand. The Hanoi Police Department for Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention received a report from the victim, who said she was scammed while taking tasks through the Facebook group “Đồng hành cùng Con Cưng.”
The victim, identified as N. and residing in Hanoi, wanted to buy a baby stroller online. A Facebook account contacted her, claiming to be customer service and inviting her to join the “Đồng hành cùng Con Cưng” group.
Police said the group was fake and impersonated Con Cưng Joint Stock Company, which sells children’s products.
After joining, Ms. N deposited money to perform tasks intended to boost sales on the “Con Cưng” system. The promised profit was reportedly 30–50% of the invested amount.
Ms. N deposited nearly 1 billion VND into the system.
When the victim attempted to withdraw her money, she was told she needed to deposit more funds to “unlock” the disbursement. At that point, she realized she had been defrauded and reported the case to the police.
To prevent similar fraud, Hanoi Police advise residents to be vigilant and not participate in investment or trading activities on fake e-commerce platforms—especially those advertising high profits or attractive investment opportunities designed to lure victims.
Police also noted that investments made through websites, apps, and electronic trading platforms carry significant risks. If a fraud case is discovered, citizens should report it immediately to the police so authorities can verify the case, deter offenders, and handle them under the law.
