The 6.8-kilometer section of Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road 3 that runs through Tay Ninh has been largely completed, but it cannot yet be opened due to slower progress on the project’s western portion. The segment, previously part of the Long An section and now located in Tay Ninh, has a total investment of over 4.2 trillion VND, including 3.04 trillion VND for construction and 1.168 trillion VND for compensation, support, and resettlement.
While the road is essentially finished and could potentially allow temporary traffic, official operation has been delayed. The Ho Chi Minh City Transport Authority said the overall project is about 75% complete. Progress varies by area: the Thu Duc old city area is around 82% complete, while the western area covering Cu Chi, Hóc Môn, and Bình Chánh is about 67% complete.
The delay is attributed to slower work in the western sections, particularly Cu Chi.
A revised completion plan could extend the end date for the entire Ring Road 3 route to 2026. Under the updated schedule, the segment through the Thu Duc old city area is targeted to finish by June 30, 2026, and the Cu Chi segment by September 30, 2026.
The government previously set a deadline of June 30, 2026 under Resolution 105/NQ-CP, but the current pace makes that target unlikely.
Once completed, Ring Road 3 will connect directly to the Ho Chi Minh City–Trung Lương Expressway at Mỹ Yên Interchange and link with the Bến Lức–Long Thành Expressway. The project is expected to help relieve traffic pressure at the western gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.
