On April 25, Da Nang’s People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung held a meeting with Vincent Clerc, Global CEO of Maersk (Denmark), on the occasion of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Liên Chiểu port project. At the meeting, Mr. Vincent Clerc described the Liên Chiểu port project as evidence of long‑term collaboration and investment commitments in Da Nang and Vietnam. Maersk pledged to use new technologies, experience, and international practices to build a green, smart, and modern Liên Chiểu port. ‘With the Liên Chiểu port project, we are not merely building a port; we aim to build a green and modern logistics ecosystem. We aim to complete the items to welcome the first ships within about 30 months,’ Mr. Clerc said. Mr. Clerc committed to leveraging experience in managing integrated ports with Free Trade Zones (FTZs) worldwide, such as Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Malaysia and Shanghai, in line with the FTZ development plan adjacent to Da Nang’s Liên Chiểu port, contributing to long‑term growth for the Central Vietnam region. ‘We hope to bring those experiences to help Da Nang become a leading regional logistics hub.’ Additionally, Maersk affirmed its continued investments in integrated logistics, warehousing, and building a synchronized ecosystem, supporting the connection between the group’s global customer network and Vietnam’s supply chain, bringing Vietnamese goods to key markets. During the meeting, Da Nang’s Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung welcomed Maersk’s investment activities, especially in Liên Chiểu port, and said the project is a city priority, a strategic infrastructure project that will play an important role in the city’s economic and social development; he also pledged to continue supporting and partnering with the company during project implementation. Regarding the Free Trade Zone, Hung noted that Da Nang is actively working with ministries to finalize institutional and legal frameworks. This is a new and breakthrough model in Vietnam. The FTZ, combined with Liên Chiểu port, will create new momentum to propel Da Nang’s growth in the near future. The chairman hopes Maersk will continue expanding investments into other promising sectors in Da Nang. Maersk is a global shipping and integrated logistics services provider, from Denmark with more than 120 years of history, operating in more than 130 countries and with more than 100 years of presence in Vietnam. Maersk operates in three core areas — integrated logistics, warehousing, and multimodal transport — with sea transport being prominent; it also builds and operates ports. Source: Nhật Anh
