The early data points to strong demand for East Coast beach locations domestically, while Mexico and the Caribbean continue to lead internationally.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is the top domestic summer destination for U.S. travelers, reflecting a broader preference for accessible coastal trips with family-friendly options. The index highlights that these destinations typically offer beach activities alongside attractions such as water parks and cultural sites.
Domestic interest also varies by holiday weekend. For Memorial Day, travelers are choosing long-weekend trips to destinations including Anaheim, California, and Orange Beach, Alabama. For the 4th of July, search activity shifts toward beach hotspots such as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Clearwater, Florida.
Internationally, Cancun ranks as the top summer travel destination for the third consecutive year. The index cites demand for diving and snorkeling experiences, along with proximity to cultural heritage sites.
Beyond Cancun, European cities remain prominent among international choices. Paris and London round out the top three, indicating continued interest in European cultural hubs across the top destinations list.
Tripadvisor’s year-over-year comparisons indicate that Florida coastal towns and Caribbean islands are gaining popularity among travelers this summer. The index also points to increased discovery of new international destinations across Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia.
For Memorial Day weekend, trending destinations include coastal favorites and cultural options. The index notes increased search activity for St. Pete Beach and Orange Beach, as well as cultural destinations such as Rome and Toronto. Anaheim, California—home to Disneyland Park—is also highlighted as a likely choice for extended weekend getaways.
For the 4th of July holiday weekend, the index shows a shift toward beach destinations such as Virginia Beach and Panama City Beach, alongside entertainment-focused cities including Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, home to Dollywood Theme Park.
Tripadvisor reports that summer travelers are prioritizing curated experiences. For U.S. travelers, cultural tours and heritage experiences are the most popular, followed by outdoor activities and adventure tours.
The index uses site behavioral data sourced from first-party traffic data on the Tripadvisor platform for searches made by travelers in the U.S. and U.K. between February 1 and April 10, 2026 for travel between June 1, 2026 and August 31, 2026.
