Police in Dien Bien Province have recently detected several individuals who piggyback on the brands of banks to lure people seeking loans to install apps, provide personal information, and thereby gradually steal assets. Rather than building trust, these 'parasites' piggyback on bank brands to lure people to install apps, provide personal information, and then gradually take assets. After victims adhere to the instructions, the perpetrators request multiple transfers for reasons such as 'application fee', 'verification fee', 'loan insurance fee', and 'disbursement fee'... Notably, some cases involve persuading victims to install fake apps or remote control software, enabling the criminals to take control of devices, steal authentication codes, log in to bank accounts, and withdraw money. For example, the app 'Mar Vay' has impersonated the branding of Vietnam Maritime Joint Stock Commercial Bank (Maritime Bank) to lure users into providing personal information and carrying out transactions, thereby stealing assets. Similarly, other apps advertise fast loans with low interest rates but are traps, even resulting in illicit loans with high interest rates. In light of the foregoing, the police advise the public to stay vigilant, avoid clicking unfamiliar links, and not install apps from unknown sources; absolutely do not provide account information, authentication codes, or personal data to strangers. Also, do not transfer money in advance in any form until clear verification is obtained. When there is a need to borrow, people should go directly to the official offices or branches of banks or legitimate credit institutions to receive advice and guidance, avoiding traps set by online scammers.
