Liên Chiểu Container Port project is a new port development designed to strengthen Vietnam’s position on the international maritime map. This morning, Deputy Prime Minister, the standing deputy PM Pham Gia Tuc, together with leaders from relevant ministries, Da Nang city, and the investor consortium, officially pressed the start button for the project “Investment in the Comprehensive Construction of Liên Chiểu Container Port,” located at the foot of Hai Van Pass. At the ceremony, the Acting Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that with more than 3,200 kilometers of coastline, many large coves, calm seas, and especially its proximity to the world’s second-busiest international maritime route linking Asia with Europe through the East Sea, Vietnam has favorable conditions to develop a marine-based economy. Moreover, Resolution 36-NQ/TW dated October 22, 2018, by the Party Central Committee on the sustainable development of Vietnam’s marine economy to 2030 with a vision to 2045 set the goal for Vietnam to become a strong sea nation; the maritime economy ranking second among the six marine economy sectors, with a focus on efficiently exploiting ports and maritime transport services. The planning for the central coast region envisions Liên Chiểu Port as an international gateway and the final connecting point of the East–West Economic Corridor (EWEC) to the Southeast Asian seas. The Liên Chiểu container port is not only an infrastructure project but a strategic link in the national and global logistics chain. Upon completion, the project will position Vietnam more deeply within the international shipping network. The Deputy Prime Minister urged Da Nang to accelerate the development of shared infrastructure and the synchronized transportation network (road, water, rail, air) to maximize the port’s effectiveness. He stressed that the investor’s success is the city’s success. Following the directives, Mr. Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, pledged continued support for the investor, addressing administrative obstacles and ensuring best possible conditions for project implementation. The city will also accelerate road connections to the port and the development of the Free Trade Zone to ensure coherence and compliance with contractual obligations. The investor consortium—Hateco Group, Hateco Port Co., Ltd, and APM Terminals B.V (the Netherlands)—stated they will implement the Liên Chiểu port project to the highest standards of technical quality, schedule adherence, and governance, leveraging each member’s strengths. When completed, the project is expected to deliver tangible economic and social benefits, including more employment opportunities, the development of a high-quality workforce, and tens of trillions of VND contributed to the local budget. The project aims to create not only a modern port but also a holistic logistics ecosystem, integrating with the national rail network and forming a multi-modal transport chain. Operations at Liên Chiểu will adopt a “green port, smart port” model, applying IoT and AI in management, operations, and port services, and will automate in operations while using clean energy and green equipment to minimize emissions and meet Vietnamese and international environmental standards. The mega port is planned to operate for 50 years and sits at a strategic location on the international shipping lane, also serving as the endpoint of the EWEC. The project is expected to bring new prosperity to the Central region and the Central Highlands; once in operation, it will alleviate load on Tiên Sa port and address urban traffic challenges in central Da Nang.
