The debate over whether decentralized finance (DeFi) will replace traditional finance (TradFi) continues to intensify. A validator on the XRP Ledger, Vet, said the momentum behind DeFi is real, but “classic DeFi” still has significant ground to cover before it can match the scale, resilience, and liquidity of established global financial systems. In his view, the shift is evolutionary rather than a quick replacement.
Vet argued that XRP is positioned to drive the next phase of DeFi because the XRP Ledger was designed from the ground up with reliability and predictable performance in mind. He said these traits matter more for high-value financial systems than experimental yield models or frequent design changes.
In contrast to ecosystems that chase high returns, Vet described XRP’s approach as more deliberate, emphasizing long-term structural resilience over short-term innovation cycles. He noted that this comes with trade-offs: XRP may not consistently generate the same speculative momentum or yield-focused activity seen in other DeFi ecosystems, but that outcome is intentional.
Vet also pointed to how infrastructure built for institutional finance tends to prioritize stability, efficient settlement, and enduring trust rather than short-term incentive cycles.
Vet’s comments align with a broader shift in the XRP ecosystem, where the asset is moving beyond its original role as a payment bridge and into productive collateral within decentralized finance. Evernorth CEO Asheesh Birla highlighted this progression, noting that XRP’s growing utility in DeFi increasingly supports active financial functions rather than serving only as a liquidity transfer mechanism.
Cross-chain development is also expanding XRP’s reach. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said XRP demand has increased following the launch of wrapped XRP (wXRP) on Solana. He attributed this to integrations with Hex Trust and LayerZero, which extend XRP into broader DeFi ecosystems and improve interoperability across networks that were previously siloed.
Taken together, these developments suggest a gradual but intentional repositioning of XRP in the digital asset space. Rather than competing on hype cycles or yield incentives, the XRP Ledger is leaning into infrastructure-level utility—supporting reliable, high-value financial activity while widening access through cross-chain connectivity.
If Vet’s assessment holds, the next phase of DeFi may be defined less by speculation and more by reliability at scale, where XRP’s conservative design choices could become a long-term advantage.

Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise. Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
