On the afternoon of April 23, 2026, SSI Securities held its 2026 Annual General Meeting of shareholders, discussing a range of issues. When a shareholder asked why SSI was not among the five companies eligible to pilot the crypto-asset exchange, the Chairman of the Board, Nguyen Duy Hung, said the screening and licensing process is different from a year ago.
“The deeper we go, the more we see no opportunity as well as the ability to operate safely and run a profitable business. The company cannot yet imagine how this field will develop. That is why SSI proactively has not completed the filing to proceed. However, this does not mean we have halted our interest in digital assets,” Mr. Hung said.
Mr. Hung said he had not previously viewed digital assets as valuable, but changed his position after governments in some countries considered placing digital currencies into national reserves similar to gold. “This is an inevitable trend,” he said, adding that SSI will participate when opportunities become clearer so it does not fall behind others.
Vietnam is widely regarded by international organizations as one of the world’s most active digital asset markets. As of July 2025, the annual volume of crypto-asset trading in Vietnam surpassed $200 billion. The number of Vietnamese holding digital assets stood at about 17 million accounts, sometimes rising to more than 21 million, placing Vietnam among the global top seven and the Asia-Pacific top three.
