On April 24 in Vientiane, Green SM Laos and Star Fintech Sole Co., Ltd (Umoney) announced they have signed an agreement to integrate the Umoney payment system into the Green SM app, alongside a strategic cooperation to develop a digital financial ecosystem and smart mobility services in Laos.
Under the cooperation, Umoney will be integrated as a direct payment method on the Green SM app. The parties will implement an integration model that enables Umoney users to access Green SM mobility services directly within the app.
The agreement also introduces what the companies describe as the first fully digital ride-hailing payment process in Laos. Fares will be charged via the Umoney wallet after each trip, replacing the previous manual transfer method.
For Laos-based users, the service is designed to work by linking a Umoney wallet to the Green SM app to pay quickly, conveniently, and cashlessly. In addition, customers using linked bank apps can pay drivers through Umoney’s QR code system.
Green SM Laos will provide mobility services for Umoney customers, including:
Umoney will collaborate with Green SM to build digital financial solutions for the driver ecosystem. The scope includes a wallet, direct wallet earnings, payments of operating costs, and cash flow management, aiming to optimize operations and improve experiences for businesses, drivers, and users.
The two sides also plan to expand the digital ecosystem by integrating Umoney and Unitel’s telecom and other digital services on the Green SM platform. The planned services include SIM registration, mobile top-ups, data packages, and other digital utilities.
The companies said they will implement promotional programs for Umoney customers in Laos, with emphasis on airports, service points, and other key areas.
Ha Chiến Thắng, Director of Star Fintech Sole Co., Ltd, said: “Partnering with Green SM is an important step in developing Umoney's digital ecosystem in Laos. The integration of payments and digital services not only offers a more convenient user experience but also promotes cashless payments and the digital transformation of the economy.”
Tran Hạnh An, Director of Mobility Services Vietnam and Laos market, commented: “The collaboration between Umoney and Green SM demonstrates a shared commitment to connecting essential urban infrastructure—from digital finance, telecommunications to a mobility ecosystem. Building on that, we aim to expand benefits for customers and drivers and to advance green transformation in a practical way, aligned with daily mobility and consumption needs.”
