On the morning of April 27, 2026, the Lam Dong Province People’s Committee and Sun Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for Phan Thiet Civil Aviation Airport, the civil aviation component. The project is intended to mark a new phase of aviation connectivity for the Mui Ne – Phan Thiet area and the Nam Trung Bo region.
The airport has a total investment of more than 3,900 billion VND and covers nearly 75 hectares. It is designed to meet the 4E standard, with the ability to serve wide-body aircraft. In phase 1, the airport’s design capacity is about 2 million passengers per year.
The passenger terminal spans 18,000 m² and is designed with inspiration from Cham culture. The architecture is intended to reflect the shape of the Poshanu towers, a distinguished Champa sacred site, using corbel brickwork, tiered arches, and a deep red brick hue.
The terminal features a 13-storey vaulted roof, with the 13th level symbolizing a transition to a new era. The facade’s columns are described as a convergence of static and dynamic energy extending in four directions. The arch gate is stylized as an upward-pointing triangle representing fire and vitality, while light filtering through layered structures is designed to create a rhythm between light and dark, solid and hollow.
On the airfield, the apron accommodates 6 parking stands for both wide-body Code E and narrow-body Code C aircraft, connected to the terminal by taxiways. The 45-meter controller tower is equipped with AWOS weather observation and modern navigation equipment to support safe operations under all conditions.
All electrical systems, water supply, airport access roads, and security infrastructure are designed to international standards, aiming to create a complete, integrated, and efficient airport.
The airport is designed to serve domestic scheduled flights and is also planned to operate occasional international flights, with the expectation of directly welcoming international travelers to Mui Ne – Phan Thiet in the near future.
Once operational, the airport is expected to shorten travel times from major hubs including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and other well-known destinations in Vietnam, particularly Phu Quoc. The project is also expected to create opportunities to welcome millions of domestic and international travelers each year.
The presence of Phan Thiet Civil Airport is described as a signal to attract investment into resort real estate, commerce, logistics, and aviation services, contributing to socio-economic development in Lam Dong Province.
Phan Thiet Civil Airport will be the second airport in Lam Dong Province. Lam Dong currently has Van Don International Airport, which is temporarily closed for upgrades and is expected to resume operation by late August 2026.
From a macro perspective, Phan Thiet Airport – the civil aviation component – is positioned to play a strategic role in the Nam Trung Bo aviation network and to strengthen connectivity with the southern economic zone. The project is also described as the third airport project invested by Sun Group.
Previously, Sun Group has invested in and operated Van Don International Airport, operates Phu Quoc International Airport, and has invested in expanding Phu Quoc Airport to serve APEC 2027. Sun Group also owns the premium Sun Air and Sun PhuQuoc Airways. The addition of Phan Thiet Civil Airport to Sun Group’s nationwide airport map is presented as reinforcing the ambition to build Vietnam’s first private aviation group.
Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise. Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
