With a total investment of more than 57 trillion dong, the Ca Ná LNG power plant project has officially signed the agreements to begin implementation, marking the formation of a large-scale LNG energy hub in Vietnam’s central region. On April 10, the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa Province, together with the Trung Nam – Sideros River joint venture, signed the Business Investment Contract for the Ca Ná LNG Power Plant project and the Credit Agreement for the Ca Ná Port Complex Phase 1.
The signing event establishes the rights and obligations between the state and the investor, creating a legal basis for project implementation. The LNG project is also noted as the first selected through international bidding under Power Plan VIII.
The Ca Ná LNG Power Plant includes a 1,500 MW gas-turbine combined-cycle plant, expected to supply about 9 billion kWh per year to the national grid.
The project also comprises an LNG storage and regasification system with capacity of 1–1.2 million tons per year, including a 220,000 m3 storage tank, an LNG receiving berth, and a 2,400 m breakwater, along with related technical infrastructure.
The total land and water area is about 139.76 ha, including land area of more than 28 ha and water area of about 111.7 ha. Total investment is estimated at around 57,385 billion dong, with a target completion and operation in 2030.
Ca Ná Port Complex Phase 1 is planned as a deep-water port capable of receiving 300,000–500,000-ton vessels. The port is expected to connect to future multimodal logistics, including road, highway, and rail, supporting export and import activities and energy projects such as wind power and offshore wind.
For Khanh Hoa Province, the project is positioned not only as a large-scale power source but also as a foundation for an industrial-energy-services ecosystem. Implementing the Ca Ná LNG project is expected to expand the energy value chain, strengthen competitiveness, and gradually form an LNG center for the central and southern regions, leveraging the deep-water port and stable geotechnical conditions.
In the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tam Thinh, Chairman of Trung Nam Group, said the signing is a significant step toward fulfilling the company’s commitments to national key projects and to Khanh Hoa Province. The company is also implementing related components to form an integrated infrastructure chain including a port, a warehouse, an LNG power plant, and a green industrial zone.
The project cluster, comprising an industrial park, the LNG plant, and the Ca Ná port, is expected to become a major growth driver for Khanh Hoa in the coming period.
