On April 27, the Ninh Binh Province Police Investigation Agency announced that it had issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Đinh Văn Cường (born 1994, Mai Hoa village, Yen Khanh commune, Ninh Binh province) for the offense of “Fraudulently obtaining assets” related to a jewelry shop in Yen Tu commune, Ninh Binh province.
According to the police, from February 2 to April 4, Đinh Văn Cường used the alias Đỗ Văn Nam and visited a jewelry shop in Yen Tu commune six times to sell or pawn a total of 12 gold necklaces and 22 gold bracelets, with a total weight of 112 chi of gold. The total value involved was more than 1.6 billion dong.
Because Cường repeatedly came to pawn large quantities of gold jewelry, the shop owner became suspicious and reported the matter to the police.
On April 4, Cường returned to the jewelry shop to request pawning two gold necklaces, each weighing 5 chi. After receiving 150 million dong, he was arrested at the scene by the task force of the Criminal Police Department of Ninh Binh Province Police, in cooperation with Yen Tu Commune Police.
During interrogation, Cường admitted that all the jewelry he brought to pawn was fake gold. He said the fake gold was purchased from a Zalo social media account.
The Investigative Police Agency of Ninh Binh Province Police ordered forensic appraisal at the Institute of Forensic Science under the Ministry of Public Security. The appraisal results showed that the necklaces and bracelets were all fake gold.
Ninh Binh Province Police are continuing to investigate and expand the case.
