MSB (Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank) announced that from May 1, 2026, transfers exceeding 500 million VND will no longer be processed via the 24/7 fast transfer service. Instead, such transactions will automatically switch to the regular transfer method, with a minimum processing time of four working hours. Transfers submitted after 15:55 will be moved to the next business day.
MSB said the change is intended to comply with the State Bank of Vietnam’s regulations on payment services and to strengthen system safety. The bank noted that similar adjustments had already been communicated by other lenders.
Eximbank said that from April 21, interbank transfers over 500 million VND will be processed only through the normal processing lane. Eximbank also stated that its online banking applications will not automatically split transactions to enable fast processing via Napas.
VPBank and TPBank issued similar notices earlier in the month, also citing regulatory compliance.
Previously, many banks offered a “split transfer” feature that divided transfers over 500 million VND into smaller amounts (often 450 million VND plus the remainder). Some banks charged around 10,000 VND per split, though most later waived the fee. This feature allowed online transfers to be routed through Napas’ interbank network so recipients could receive funds immediately, regardless of time.
However, an amended circular on intermediary payment services effective November 2025 states that VND transactions through the State Bank’s Electronic Interbank Clearing System must not exceed 500 million VND per instruction. When a transfer exceeds this limit, the bank’s system routes it through the regular processing lane, which requires at least four hours of processing time. If the transfer is submitted outside business hours, it will be completed on the next business day.
The change means that transfers over 500 million VND made after Friday after-hours may not reach the beneficiary until Monday at some banks. Banks advised customers to conduct multiple transfers under 500 million VND if fast processing is required.
