Petrolimex and GGenTec have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to study a project for a plant producing regenerated oil from waste oil, waste plastics, and waste rubber. The collaboration was announced by the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) against a backdrop of complex global geopolitical developments affecting energy supply, underscoring the need to diversify energy sources and accelerate the transition to more sustainable energy.
The partnership aims to study a plant designed to optimize the value chain from collection and recycling to the production and distribution of regenerated oil. Petrolimex said the work would support the development of a circular energy economy in Vietnam.
Petrolimex Chairman Pham Van Thanh stated that, beyond its role as a traditional fuel trading company, Petrolimex is working to become a leading energy group in Vietnam, providing green, clean, and sustainable energy products.
The MoU comes as Vietnam implements energy transition measures. Under Directive No. 09/CT-TTg dated March 19, the Prime Minister called for strengthening energy-saving efforts, promoting energy transition, and developing electric transportation.
The directive instructs the Ministry of Industry and Trade to accelerate the use of biofuels (E10) and review conditions to implement the E10 transition plan in April 2026. The stated goals include reducing mineral gasoline consumption by about 10% and saving energy.
The Prime Minister also urged fuel distributors and traders to promote biofuels and higher-quality low-emission fuels to support energy transition and reduce emissions in transportation.
Petrolimex described the MoU with GGenTec as both a starting point for cooperation between the two energy companies and a joint commitment to environmental protection and the country’s future.
