Nearly one year after construction began, the Rạch Tôm Bridge project in Ho Chi Minh City remains in a cautious pace, with the site lacking workers and progress still concentrated on demolition and land handover, according to reporting from VTC News.
On April 21, 2026, Lương Ý reported that the project to build the Rạch Tôm Bridge (Hiệp Phước commune, Ho Chi Minh City) has been under construction for nearly a year but is moving slowly. The construction site, as observed, has limited manpower. A VTC News report dated April 20 said the XL1 package covers bridge construction, removal of the old bridge steel, and measures to ensure safety for navigation in the waterway.
The investor is the Ho Chi Minh City Project Management Board for transportation infrastructure, while the contractor is DMA Construction Investment JSC.
Despite almost a year since construction started, the project is currently mainly at the stage of demolishing houses and handing over land. While households that agreed to relocate have moved, some cases have not yet handed over land, which is reported to be affecting overall progress.
At the site, workers are reported to be leveling the ground and driving piles.
The Rạch Tôm Bridge is a key project on Le Văn Lương Street, connecting southern Ho Chi Minh City with Tay Ninh province. The project has a total investment of 497 billion VND. Construction costs are reported at around 141 billion VND, with the remainder allocated for land clearance and other costs.
The bridge’s starting point is about 320 meters from the old bridge pier on the Ho Chi Minh City side, and the end point is about 302 meters from the pier on the Tay Ninh side. The project is scheduled to be completed on December 31, 2026.
The old Rạch Tôm Bridge had reportedly degraded for many years. Residents have expressed strong expectations for the new bridge. One local resident said: “Each time a car passes over the bridge it shakes; those in the back feel uneasy. When construction started in July 2025, everyone was happy; we just hope the project stays on schedule so people can travel conveniently.”
The Rạch Tôm Bridge is being developed in parallel with other major infrastructure projects, including the Bình Khánh Bridge and the Ben Luc–Long Thanh expressway, supporting a coordinated regional transport network.
Upon completion, the bridge is expected to contribute to economic and social development and positively affect the real estate market in Hiệp Phước commune and Tay Ninh province.
