On April 16, 2026, Vietjet and SPDB Financial Leasing (SPDBFL), representing Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, signed an agreement to finance an operating lease for 10 Comac C909 aircraft, expanding financial and aviation cooperation between Vietnam and China.
The signing ceremony took place at the Vietnamese Embassy in Beijing. It was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Phan Van Giang and senior leaders and representatives of major enterprises from both countries, during the state visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to China at the invitation of Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.
Vietjet said the agreement supports its aim to become a multinational aviation group by expanding its international network and investing in a modern fleet. SPDBFL, through Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, is described as a leading Chinese banking and financial institution with experience in financing large-scale projects, including aircraft leasing and financing.
Under the agreement, the two sides will finance operating leases for up to 10 Comac C909 aircraft. Vietjet said the move is intended to optimize fleet utilization and diversify financial resources while enabling access to international capital markets.
The parties also said the agreement provides a platform for Vietjet to gradually deploy Comac aircraft on Vietnam–China routes, supporting expansion of the regional network and strengthening bilateral aviation connectivity. The cooperation is also positioned as a way to reinforce regional and global aviation value-chain linkages.
On the occasion of General Secretary and President To Lam’s visit to China, Vietjet announced five new routes. The routes are Hanoi–Hangzhou, Anxi, Huangshan and Ho Chi Minh City–Guilin, Huangshan. Vietjet said Hanoi–Anxi and Ho Chi Minh City–Guilin begin operations from early April 2026.
The airline said the new routes are expected to connect key economic, cultural and tourism hubs, boosting trade, investment and people-to-people exchange between the two countries, and supporting the Vietnam–China Tourism Cooperation Year.
Vietjet said the Vietjet–China cooperation reflects deeper links between financial institutions and airlines, creating flexible and effective partnership models that contribute to strengthening the Vietnam–China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in this new development phase.
On the same day, Vietjet and AVIC Cabin Systems signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement covering aircraft interiors and supporting industries, signaling a new strategic chapter in Vietnam–China industrial and technology collaboration.
