Traveloka data shows Vietnamese travelers are increasingly prioritizing short getaways, coastal retreats, and convenience in their itineraries. Domestic lodging searches in April–May 2026 rose 46% versus January–February 2026, signaling a strong rebound in domestic tourism.
Behind this growth is a clear trend toward short, easy-to-plan trips that maximize rest time. Instead of long, complex itineraries, travelers are opting for 2–4 day trips, leveraging long weekends and summer holidays to recharge.
The trends of micro-holidays, staycations, and short-getaway trips are becoming more popular as convenience becomes as important as destination appeal. An increasing number of travelers choose itineraries just 1–3 hours from their home, including routes such as Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau and Phan Thiết – Mũi Né; Hanoi to Ha Long and Ninh Binh; and Da Nang to Hội An and Huế.
Beaches continue to lead the summer travel season, but travelers are seeking more than a beautiful coastline. Alongside blue sea and leisure, travelers are increasingly looking for destinations that are easy to reach and offer diverse experiences.
According to Traveloka, Da Nang remains a top search destination, offering a diverse travel ecosystem including beach resort stays, festivals, and entertainment. Searches for lodging in areas such as Ngũ Hành Sơn, Hội An, and Sơn Trà all rose by over 45%.
Ha Long recorded a sharp rise, with lodging searches almost tripling, indicating rising demand for easily accessible destinations with rich experiences in a short time.
Other destinations including Phan Thiết, Nha Trang, Quy Nhơn, and Vũng Tàu continue to attract visitors thanks to a balanced mix of leisure, local experiences, and easy transport links. Phú Quốc continues to show strong growth in demand this summer, supported by aviation development.
Huỳnh Thị Mai Thy, Traveloka Country Manager, said: “This summer's data show travelers are taking a new approach to domestic travel. Premium beach vacations still attract, but more Vietnamese travelers see coastal trips as easily accessible and repeatable, rather than aspirational. They are planning more short trips, with higher frequency and greater initiative. Traveloka’s role is to help streamline the journey as much as possible.”
Overall, the trend indicates summer travel is shifting away from longer distances or extended stays toward experiences that better fit travelers’ time, preferences, and lifestyle.
