On 22 April 2026 in Hanoi, Viettel Post, the Viettel Post Postal Corporation, and FedEx formally established a strategic partnership, aiming to modernize Vietnam’s logistics infrastructure and connect Vietnam’s trade flows more directly with the global supply chain through intelligent technology solutions.
At the signing ceremony and the announcement of the cooperation agreement between FedEx and Viettel Post, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said logistics has become a strategic infrastructure for Vietnam’s development. He noted that, as Vietnam enters a new era, logistics is no longer only a supporting service but a key factor determining the competitiveness of goods and the efficiency of global supply chains.
The deputy minister emphasized that developing logistics in a modern, synchronized, and efficient direction is important for reducing costs, improving service quality, promoting the flow of goods, and strengthening integration capacity and sustainable economic development.
He also referenced the Vietnam Logistics Service Development Strategy for the period 2025–2035, which targets modernizing infrastructure, accelerating digital transformation, and greening the sector. In this context, the collaboration between FedEx and Viettel Post is positioned as a model to build a wider logistics network linking Vietnam with the world.
Masamichi Ujiie, Chairman of FedEx for North and South Asia-Pacific, said Vietnam is one of Asia’s most strategic and dynamic markets. Under the agreement, starting next week (officially from 26 April 2026), Viettel Post will become FedEx’s National Network Partner (NNP) in Vietnam.
Ujiie described the partnership as creating a “seamless end-to-end logistics experience” for Vietnamese businesses, including exporters and SMEs, to compete internationally. He said the arrangement provides FedEx with access to Viettel Post’s nationwide network across 34 provinces and Viettel Post’s fleet, while Vietnamese businesses gain access to FedEx’s network covering more than 220 countries and territories.
He also noted the NNP step ahead of FedEx’s transition to a direct-operating model in June 2025.
Representing Viettel Post, Deputy General Director Dinh Thanh Son said the partnership supports deeper integration into the global supply chain, including upgrading the operating system to align with FedEx’s international standards.
Viettel Post highlighted that the collaboration will deploy multiple technologies. With processing volumes reaching up to 1.5 million orders per day, Viettel Post has moved from manual sorting to full automation, including the rollout of a “Dark Factory” model. In Viettel Post warehouses, autonomous robots (AGVs) replace humans in labor-intensive tasks. A Viettel Post representative said that previously a plant needed 600 employees, but productivity has risen fivefold, with no staff remaining in the sorting stage as 220 robots operate continuously around the clock.
AI will also be used to optimize routing for postmen to reduce costs and travel time. Viettel Post is implementing “Nonstop Delivery” through Smart Lockers. The representative cited that a Vietnamese postman currently delivers about 80–100 orders per day, while in advanced markets such as China the figure reaches 1,000–1,500 due to smart lockers. Viettel Post plans to deploy 1,000 lockers and expand nationwide through a socialized model.
On the FedEx side, the group is investing in tools that use big data and AI to provide real-time shipment visibility and control. These tools are intended to forecast weather and geopolitical risks to adjust routes promptly, supporting transparency and reliability for customers.
Son linked the partnership to Vietnam’s trade scale, noting that Vietnam’s trade turnover surpassed USD 930 billion in 2025. He said strengthening direct connections between domestic logistics infrastructure and international networks is a key factor to boost export capacity and drive trade flows.
Viettel Post leadership also emphasized that partnering with FedEx is a “shortest path” to meet global standards rather than building cross-border logistics capabilities from scratch in costly markets such as the United States or Europe. The representative said that if standards are not met, cross-border services cannot be offered.
The collaboration is also expected to help address customs clearance and language barriers for Vietnamese SMEs. Instead of dealing with international codes or strict import regulations, enterprises can send goods through Viettel Post’s system, where experts provide support from documentation to customs coordination.
The Viettel Post–FedEx tie-up was described as more than a business agreement between two firms, combining national logistics infrastructure strength with a global logistics network. With support from a technology platform, the cooperation is intended to advance Vietnam’s logistics capabilities and reinforce Vietnam’s role as a logistics hub connecting China, ASEAN, and the world.
