The Government Office issued Announcement No. 204/TB-VPCP dated April 21, 2026, summarizing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc’s conclusions at a meeting reviewing progress on the Long Thành International Airport project, Phase 1. The conclusion describes the project as a national key project of special importance, attracting significant attention and expectations from the Party, the State, and society.
According to the announcement, relevant agencies have prioritized difficulties and obstacles in implementation, helping the project basically meet milestones, including the successful organization of the first technical flight on December 19, 2025. However, the task of completing and putting the project into operation in 2026 is described as very heavy due to a large remaining workload, outstanding payment issues, adverse weather conditions, insufficient human resources, and rising costs of materials and fuels.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that achieving commercial operation in 2026 is a mandatory requirement. Ministries, sectors, localities, and project participants are required to remain highly focused, raise accountability, proactively resolve issues within their authority, and strengthen coordination to remove obstacles and accelerate progress.
Public Security Ministry: Speed up investigation and handling of violations in the project to ensure accountability of organizations and individuals involved; coordinate with relevant agencies to facilitate payment for items without violations.
Ministry of Finance: Consolidate organization and personnel at the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV); establish a working group to guide handling of payment-related issues before April 22, 2026. The ministry also directs ACV to review procurement packages, require contractors to strengthen resources, accelerate progress, and actively negotiate to resolve payment difficulties.
Ministry of Construction: Form a task force in coordination with Dong Nai Province to address issues related to material supply and fuel. The ministry is also tasked with supporting coordination of construction activities, finalizing acceptance procedures, and ensuring smooth implementation of each item.
Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV): As the investor, ACV bears comprehensive responsibility for the progress and quality of Component 3. ACV is required to work directly with each contractor to review volumes, progress, and mobilization capacity, and then require contractors to accelerate construction and ensure progress in line with contracts.
People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province: Ensure material and fuel supply for the project, and accelerate site clearance for connecting transportation projects to ensure synchronous completion when the Long Thành airport enters commercial operation at the end of 2026.
