Algeria’s Directorate for Evaluation and Optimization of Petroleum Resources (ALNAFT) said its bid round mechanism enables oil and gas companies—both domestic and foreign—to submit applications and compete for exploration rights in the proposed blocks.
At the ceremony, Mohamed Arkab, Algeria’s Minister of Energy, spoke. Observers said Algeria is seeking to preserve its position as a key energy hub in North Africa while using the volatility of the global energy market to attract additional investment.
Globally, Algeria is described as an important energy producer and exporter. It ranks fifth in production and second in natural gas exports. In oil, it ranks thirteenth in production and ninth in exports.
Earlier, at the Vietnam–Algeria Economic Forum held on November 19, 2025, PVEP and Algeria’s national oil company SONATRACH signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) covering cooperation in the oil and energy sector.
PVEP is currently participating in oil production projects in Blocks 433a and 416b—the Bir Seba field—in the Hassi Messaoud area of Ouargla Province, more than 600 km south of Algiers. The article describes this as one of Petrovietnam’s most successful overseas oil and gas projects.
