Apple is testing multiple frame designs for its first smart glasses, with styles intended to resemble recognizable options in the market, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The company is also reportedly developing a new camera setup for the product.
In his Power On newsletter, Gurman said Apple’s design team has created at least four frame styles that would be offered in multiple color options. The designs include:
Apple is also reportedly considering a camera setup that uses vertically oriented oval lenses surrounded by lights. The design is intended to help differentiate Apple’s smart glasses from rivals, including Meta, which is currently the largest smart-glasses maker. Gurman said the goal for the frames is to have an instantly recognizable design.
Counterpoint Research released findings in March indicating the smart-glasses category remains in an early stage. The firm reported that the smart glasses market grew 139% year-over-year in the second half of 2025 compared with 2024, attributing part of the growth to Meta’s AI smart glasses portfolio.
Apple’s smart glasses are expected to include cameras for capturing videos and photos, along with microphones and speakers for phone calls, notifications, and music playback. Gurman also reported that the glasses would feature a multimodal AI capable of responding to requests via Siri.
Gurman said Apple’s plan is to announce the glasses as soon as the end of the year or early next year, with shipments beginning by the end of 2027.
Apple representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
