Apple is testing multiple frame styles for its first smart glasses and is also considering a distinctive camera design, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported. The developments are aimed at differentiating Apple’s product from existing offerings, including those from Meta, the current leader in the smart-glasses market.
Gurman reported that Apple is testing at least four frame styles to rival Meta’s smart glasses. The designs are intended to be instantly recognizable and are expected to be offered in multiple color options.
Apple is also reportedly working on a new camera setup for its first smart-glasses product. The concept includes vertically oriented oval lenses with surrounding lights, a design feature intended to help distinguish Apple’s glasses from rivals such as Meta.
Counterpoint Research released findings in March indicating the smart-glasses category remains early in its development. The firm reported that the smart glasses market grew 139% year-over-year in the second half of 2025 compared with 2024, with Meta’s AI smart glasses portfolio credited for part of the growth.
Gurman reported that Apple’s smart glasses are expected to include cameras for capturing videos and photos, along with microphones and speakers for phone calls, notifications, and music playback. The glasses are also expected to feature multimodal AI that could respond to requests via Siri.
Gurman said Apple’s plan is to announce the glasses as soon as the end of this year or early next year, with shipments beginning by the end of 2027. Apple representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
