APEC 2027, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit to be hosted by Vietnam in November 2027, is entering an intensive construction phase as key projects move toward stated deadlines. Despite hot weather, works linked to the APEC Conference and Exhibition Center and related infrastructure on Phu Quoc are progressing across multiple fronts.
Sun Group, the investor behind the APEC Phu Quoc facilities, said the APEC Conference and Exhibition Center has reached 90% completion of its structural framework after roughly 10 months of work since June 2025. The project includes a total built-floor area of 157,375 square meters, comprising four above-ground floors and one basement.
Within the complex, the exhibition hall is described as a ballroom with an 81-meter span and 11,050 square meters of space, exceeding the Caesars Forum in Las Vegas, which is cited at 10,220 square meters. The multipurpose theater has completed about 80% of its concrete and reinforced steel framework, while mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems have begun installation.
Sun Group said the exterior facade is planned to be completed by October, with an overall completion target in early 2027 for the APEC Conference.
Separately, the expanded Phu Quoc International Airport project—covering about 1,050 hectares—is progressing across multiple components. Runway 2 has reached 58% progress on the M150/25 concrete layer, while the higher-grade M350/45 layer has begun.
At Terminal 2, rough structural work has reached 85%. Once operational, the airport’s annual capacity is expected to rise to 20 million passengers from 2027, with Phase 2 expanding capacity to 50 million per year.
Sun Group also reported that the VIP terminal—intended to host heads of state and senior leaders—has completed 100% of its structural frame and 60% of its roofing, with progress faster than the investor’s expectations. The company said it has partnered with Aedas Interiors (Singapore) to design interiors for the terminal and VIP areas to modern, high-end standards.
Sun Group said it is also accelerating progress on APEC works, including the DT975 provincial road linking Phu Quoc Airport to the APEC Center. The road project has achieved 15% progress after more than three months of construction. The contractor aims to complete 80% of foundation and utilities so that, when the rainy season arrives, foundation and asphalt works can proceed, supporting completion before 30-4-2027.
In Phu Quoc, 21 major projects serving APEC 2027 are being rushed by An Giang to meet the schedule. The effort is positioned as a way to upgrade urban infrastructure, attract investment, and spur tourism and real estate development.
“Phu Quoc has long been a popular destination. I hope that when these works are completed, the island’s image will be more widely known, busier, and more developed. At the same time, the airport’s capacity remains limited; expanding it will improve travel and tourism for residents.”
APEC 2027 will be hosted on Phu Quoc, following Da Nang (2017) and Hanoi (2006). Phu Quoc covers more than 570 square kilometers and has been reorganized into 51 neighborhoods.
In 2025, over 11 months, the region welcomed nearly 7.6 million visitors, up 35% year-on-year and surpassing its plan by almost 5%. In November alone, international visitors reached over 242,000—triple the 2024 level.

Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise. Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
