A delegation from Marcegaglia UK visited the Hoa Phat Dung Quat steel complex to learn about its production processes, management systems, and operating capacity.
The visit aimed to assess Hoa Phat Dung Quat’s production capabilities, quality control, and management systems, as part of an ongoing expansion plan with Marcegaglia UK.
During the meeting, Mr. Nicholas William Haycock, CEO of Marcegaglia UK, praised Hoa Phat Dung Quat’s production capacity, product quality, and management system.
Under the expansion plan, Marcegaglia UK intends to raise its purchases of hot-rolled coil (HRC) from Hoa Phat to about 10,000 tons per month, double the current level of around 5,000 tons.
From the start of 2026 to date, Marcegaglia UK has maintained purchases of around 5,000 tons of HRC per month and is currently Hoa Phat Dung Quat's largest customer in the UK market.
Marcegaglia UK is a subsidiary of the Marcegaglia Group (Italy), one of Europe’s largest steel processing companies. Founded in 1959, the group operates in more than 30 countries, runs 36 plants across four continents with about 7,800 employees. According to the company’s disclosed information, Marcegaglia has a processing capacity of about 6.5 million tons of steel per year, revenue about €7.5 billion, and serves more than 15,000 customers worldwide.
During the working visit to Quang Ngai, the Marcegaglia UK delegation visited the HRC2 hot-rolled coil plant, where a modern rolling line is in operation along with quality control and production management systems. According to Hoa Phat, these factors help the company meet the technical requirements of markets with high standards, including Europe.
The delegation also surveyed the logistics system at Port Terminals 1 and 2 of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat complex. A representative described the capability to receive ships with large tonnage, the process of importing raw materials, exporting finished products, and the advantages of the port system in optimizing the supply chain, shortening delivery times and enhancing competitiveness for exports.
Hoa Phat is currently Southeast Asia's largest steel producer with total annual capacity of about 16 million tons. Of this, the Hoa Phat Dung Quat complex accounts for about 12 million tons, focusing on hot-rolled coil (HRC) and high-quality steel products.
In 2026, Hoa Phat set a revenue target of 210,000 billion VND and after-tax profit of 22,000 billion VND, up about 33% and 42% respectively from the previous year.
After the first quarter, the group posted revenue of over 53,300 billion VND and after-tax profit of 9,056 billion VND. Of this, about 5,200 billion VND came from steel production, with the remainder mainly from the transfer of the Phố Nối real estate project (Hung Yen).
Marcegaglia UK is part of a group that, per disclosed information, has a processing capacity of about 6.5 million tons of steel per year, revenue around €7.5 billion, and serves more than 15,000 customers worldwide.
The expansion in HRC purchases by Marcegaglia UK could reinforce Hoa Phat Dung Quat’s role as a key supplier for the UK market and support the broader export-oriented strategy. The port terminals at the Dung Quat complex are described as capable of handling large tonnage, aiding import of raw materials and export of finished products, which may shorten delivery times and enhance competitiveness for exports. Hoa Phat, as Southeast Asia’s largest steel producer, continues to rely on its Dung Quat complex, which focuses on hot-rolled coil and high-quality steel products.
