Himax Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: HIMX) announced at Display Week 2026 the unveiling of new advancements in high-contrast miniature LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon) microdisplay technology aimed at next-generation AR glasses. The company said the updates focus on significantly enhanced contrast performance, improved optical efficiency, and system-level innovations. Himax senior technical manager Dr. Kuan-Yu Chen will present “High-Contrast Dual-Edge Color-Sequential Front-lit LCoS with Local Dimming Concept for AR Glasses” during Session 36.5 on May 6, as part of the Society for Information Display (SID) symposium running May 3–8, 2026 in Los Angeles.
Himax’s proprietary Dual-Edge Front-lit LCoS microdisplay is designed to combine illumination optics and the LCoS panel in a compact form factor. The company said the microdisplay can be as small as 0.09 c.c. and weighs only 0.2 grams. It is rated for up to 350,000 nits brightness and 1 lumen output at 200mW total power consumption. The solution includes a 720 × 720 resolution and is positioned as an option balancing weight, resolution, image quality, size, power consumption and cost.
Himax said its material and process optimizations have improved Full On Full Off (FOFO) contrast from 250:1 to 450:1, which the company said enhances image clarity and readability in challenging lighting conditions. It also said the integration of its newly developed Dynamic Light Modulation (DLM) technology increases FOFO contrast performance to levels exceeding 1000:1 and helps eliminate the “postcard effect” typically seen in low-brightness or dark environments.
The company said the combination of the improved contrast characteristics and the microdisplay’s compact design makes the technology suitable for lightweight, all-day wearable AR devices.
Jordan Wu, CEO of Himax, said the company is returning to Display Week with a significantly enhanced solution that raises the bar on contrast, dynamic range, and system integration, building on the “landmark debut” of its Front-lit LCoS microdisplay at Display Week 2025.
Himax said it will host interested parties at Booth 318. The company provided an email contact for scheduling meetings or booth tours: carol_lin@himaxdisplay.com.
Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise. Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
