On April 9, the Immigration Department (PA08) of Ho Chi Minh City Police said that most delays in passport processing are caused by errors in the passport application photo and mismatches between the photo and the information on the citizen ID card.
PA08 noted that bottlenecks typically occur when the passport application photo does not match the data on the citizen ID card or when the application contains incorrect information about the applicant’s place of birth.
The department also warned residents not to reuse a photo from previous passport issuances or an old photo already stored in the passport data system.
PA08 reiterated the “6-month rule,” stating that passport photos must be taken within the last six months. Applicants should not use older photos that have already been entered into the system.
According to PA08, the photo should meet the following requirements:
PA08 added that if an applicant has undergone cosmetic changes that significantly alter their appearance compared to the time the ID card was issued, the department recommends renewing the ID card before submitting a passport application. This is intended to ensure the data matches exactly.
