Whirlpool Corporation plans to acquire and redevelop an existing building in Clyde, investing more than $60 million to transform the former solar panel manufacturing facility into a plant producing appliance components and subassembly work for washers and dryers.
The development of the new Clyde operations is expected to take place over the next two years, creating between 100 and 150 new jobs. Whirlpool said the facility will function as a hub supporting its U.S. operations, including providing critical support to nearby Ohio plants.
“Whirlpool Corporation is leaning into our commitment to U.S. manufacturing,” said Marc Bitzer, Whirlpool Corporation chairman and CEO. “When there is a level playing field, our American workers can out-compete anyone in the world. This investment is proof of our confidence in that workforce and our determination to win by producing high-quality, innovative products in the U.S.”
Whirlpool said the investment will include new advanced manufacturing technologies and automation. Kristin Day, vice president of U.S. manufacturing, described the project as a “hybrid environment” combining automation with human work to improve precision and efficiency.
“This new facility represents an evolution in American manufacturing,” Day said. “By creating a hybrid environment where cutting-edge automation meets human ingenuity, we are not just building appliances—we are building the future domestic production for our industry. Our people remain the foundation of our success, and these tools will empower them to reach new levels of precision and efficiency.”
Whirlpool reported that approximately 80% of the major appliances it sells in the U.S. are produced domestically. The company also said it has spent $23 billion in manufacturing, labor and logistics over the past decade, and that last year alone it spent more than $6 billion with U.S. suppliers.
The Clyde investment follows other recent domestic investment by the company, including a $300 million investment in its laundry operations announced in October. Whirlpool said that initiative is aimed at increasing capacity by adding a new production line and creating 400 to 600 new jobs.
Whirlpool said the investments are subject to the final approval of incentives. Assistance from JobsOhio and a tax credit from the State of Ohio are pending review and approval.
The company expects to hold a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for the facility later this year.
Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE: WHR) is a home appliance company and said it is the only major U.S.-based manufacturer of kitchen and laundry appliances. The company reported approximately $16 billion in annual net sales in 2025, with close to 90% in the Americas, and said it has 41,000 employees and 35 manufacturing and technology research centers.
