The Hung Temple Festival and Land of Heaven Cultural-Tourism Week 2026 opened on the evening of April 17, 2026, at Hung Vuong Square in Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province. The event is held from April 17 to April 26 at the Special National Historic Site Complex of Hung Temple and across multiple locations in Phu Tho.
Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Pham Dai Dung, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Tran Duy Dong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; and leaders from relevant departments and agencies, along with a large number of visitors.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Huy Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee and Head of the Organizing Committee, said the Hung Vuong Festival is not only a major cultural event for the province but also a national festival for the Vietnamese people. He described it as an opportunity for people at home and abroad to show reverence and gratitude to their ancestors, while strengthening national unity, pride, and the aspiration to build a prosperous and happy country.
Ngoc noted that following the consolidation of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh, the province is working to leverage its potential to become a linkage hub for the midland and northern mountainous regions, while also positioning itself as a destination for culture, tourism, and investment. He said this year’s festival features renewed scale and content, aiming to balance heritage valorization with introducing the homeland of Hung Vuong to domestic and international friends.
He highlighted that Phu Tho has nearly 1,000 ranked cultural relics, five UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritages, and many other tangible and intangible cultural assets, including the Hung Temple Historical Site dedicated to the Hung Kings and linked to the worship of Hung Vuong and humanity’s representative intangible heritage.
Ngoc said the 2026 Hung Temple Festival and Land of Heaven Cultural-Tourism Week will be organized with broader scale and content. Cultural, artistic, sports, and tourism activities are planned with participation from provincial localities, creating diverse experiential spaces for residents and visitors. He also pointed to the revival of the folk street festival as part of efforts to honor traditional culture.
During the Land of Heaven Cultural-Tourism Week, Phu Tho will showcase distinctive cultural values and folk art forms including hat xoan, Muong gong, and drum songs performed by local artisans and students. The program is intended to present a cultural landscape that is both rustic and profound, emphasizing the enduring value of heritage in modern life.
Immediately after the opening gong, the Hung Vuong Square space featured a report titled “Phu Tho connects heritage – Converges identity,” highlighting achievements in economic and social development and reaffirming the resilience of cultural values.
The highlight of the opening night was the special artistic program “Linh thiêng nguồn cội – Đất Tổ Hùng Vương,” staged in three parts: “Linh thiêng nguồn cội,” “Về miền di sản,” and “Phú Thọ vươn mình cùng đất nước.” The performances used dance-drama, light shows, and mashups to re-create the nation’s heroic past and convey national spirit.
The program opened with performances designed to express the sacredness of origins and the cultural roots associated with the Hung Kings and Hung Vuong.
Part 2 returned viewers to the cultural space of the homeland, featuring Xoan singing (Phu Tho), Muong gong, and drum songs performed by local artisans and students.
The finale, Part 3, featured youthful, aspirational songs including “Vietnam - A New Day,” “Phuong Hoang Wings,” “Vietnam Essence,” and “Phu Tho - The Colors of New Spring,” conveying renewal and regional aspirations in a new development era.
The opening segment concluded with “Phú Thọ - Sắc xuân ngày mới,” performed by a large cast of artists and participants.
The 2026 Hung Temple Festival and Land of Heaven Cultural-Tourism Week is presented as both a cultural occasion to honor the Hung Kings and a platform for Phu Tho to promote its image, potential, and strengths to domestic and international audiences. With a focus on rooting in the homeland, the event aims to spread national pride and reinforce Phu Tho’s position as a sacred land with a unique identity and a sustainable development horizon.
