The first session of the XVI National Assembly will consider personnel appointments for key state offices, including the President, Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Assembly, Vice Chairpersons of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Ministers, and members of the Government. It will also address appointments and work for the National Assembly’s Standing Committee, the National Election Council, and relevant committees.
On the morning of March 26, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man chaired a meeting at the National Assembly House to discuss preparations for the first session of the XVI National Assembly.
The Chairman said the first session has special significance following the success of the 14th National Party Congress, the election of deputies for the 2026–2031 term, and the success of the 14th Central Conference.
According to the meeting, the session will consider personnel for the following positions and bodies: President; Prime Minister; Chairman of the National Assembly; Vice Chairpersons of the National Assembly; Deputy Prime Ministers; members of the Government; members of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly; the National Election Council; and the National Assembly’s committees.
The National Election Council has published the list of 500 deputies elected. It is planned that by March 27, the council will formally confirm the eligibility of the 500 deputies.
The Chairman noted that after the election, central and local agencies reviewed petitions to ensure compliance before announcing official results. Coordination among relevant agencies has largely been completed, enabling confirmation of the deputies’ eligibility.
The Parliament Office and the Committee for Deputies Affairs are continuing to finalize procedures to support the overall pace of the session.
The Chairman also welcomed the Committee for Deputies Affairs’ coordination in organizing training for newly elected deputies, described as meaningful not only for first-time deputies but also for those re-elected.
Parliament will work for 11 days, opening on the morning of April 6, 2026, and closing on April 24, 2026.
In the plan shared at the meeting, about 10 days remain before the inaugural session. The Chairman said agencies will continue reviewing completed tasks, ongoing work, and outstanding issues to report to National Assembly leadership and the Standing Committee.
In a report presented at the meeting, National Assembly Secretary-General and Head of the National Assembly Office Le Quang Manh said the first session will consider and decide on:
All legislative content has been arranged in the draft program for the session and will be reviewed by the Standing Committee from early March 2026 onward. For content related to the economy, society, finance, budgeting, supervision, and other important issues, review is expected at the Standing Committee’s 56th meeting.
